The winner gets to run the planet and our lives! There isn't a better conspiracy story around to keep students involved with a lot of number crunching!
   
 

Online Exercise: Twenty-three short stories set the suspense and humor for the classroom exercise. Learners can listen to these stories online at The Billionaires Online on their own time.

   
  Classroom Exercise: Learner groups act as vote tellers for all the company elections. To allocate these votes properly, the tellers (the learners) have to follow a short, but somewhat complicated, set of instructions. They will stumble a bit as they collectively learn a new technical process but will take great pride when they master this challenge.

  After the learners conduct several elections, they will become more familiar with the process. With this familiarity. the instructor will raise the English conversation challenge.

 

Learners stay with the exercise as they see their favorite or least favorite billionaire slowly rise to the top. The final election results in a suspenseful contest.
   
  This exercise is designed to have multiple right answers, so no group should feel "ashamed" that they got a different answer from another group. And the exercise is designed for groups to move at different speeds, so no group feels rushed and no group sits idle waiting for others to finish.
   
  This module is a great confidence builder!
   
Quizzes: Between the online and classroom material, there is a 234-word vocabulary quiz. Learners can do this on their own time.
 
Duration: Allow about two hours of classroom time for the Vote Counting Exercise.
 
Regular ELT: There really isn't a lot of technical business in this DVBE module, so non-business, but numerically oriented students should enjoy this challenge. This module would be very appropriate to challenge a regular upper-intermediate class, especially if the students work with a lot of numbers in their profession.
