Transcript 6: Trainees 2

Bill

Well, we have got four spots for trainees. They won’t like the low hours. But that’s the way life works.

Juanita

Does any trainee have a restriction?

Bill

Let’s start with Gerhard. He is available after 5:00 p.m.

Juanita

He must be related to Dulani; both only want to work evenings . . . . . There are no spots for him in this week’s schedule.

Bill

Wilma and Loan will be happy to hear that. . . . Loan is a weekend person, and Wilma is a weekday person.

Juanita

That makes scheduling very easy. Loan gets the Sunday 3-7 shift and the Saturday 1-4 shift. She has 7 hours.

Bill

Wilma gets to work a split shift on Friday: 8 to 12 and 2 to 5.

Juanita

You know, we should do more split shifts.

Bill

Why?

Juanita

When an employee has such a break—not too long, not too short—they really can’t go home. Maybe they will spend some of their paycheck at the store’s deli while waiting for the second part of their shift to start.

Bill

You are starting to think like a manager.
